In August 1906, Yorkshire all-rounder George Hirst produced what remains the only “quadruple” in first-class cricket history: scoring a century in both innings and taking five wickets in both innings of the same match. Against Somerset at Bath, Hirst made 111 and 117 not out before claiming 6 for 70 and 5 for 45, finishing with 228 runs and 11 wickets as Yorkshire won by 389 runs. The performance came during his extraordinary 1906 season, when he became the only player ever to score more than 2,
