Methodology and data coverage

Redball reports statistics from its recorded cricket data. A leading entry is a record within the stated format, level and available data; historical coverage can be incomplete.

Methodology reviewed . Data retrieval dates below are separate from this editorial review.

Formats, levels and statistics

Test · International and First Class · Domestic are separate scopes. Domestic first-class totals exclude Tests. Career aggregates and match-by-match records are maintained separately and can have different coverage and update times.

County Championship seasons use the calendar year of match start. Fourth-innings records select the fourth match innings. An asterisk after a batting score means not out; bowling figures show wickets/runs conceded. Batting average is runs per dismissal; bowling average is runs conceded per wicket. Missing values are displayed as unavailable, not zero.

Record ordering and ties

Individual batting records are ordered by runs, then match date and innings identifier. Bowling records are ordered by wickets, then fewer runs conceded, match date and innings identifier. Career hundreds are ordered by hundreds, then career runs and player identifier. County season totals use runs or wickets, then player identifier.

Public record tables show up to ten entries. Stable ordering does not break a statistical tie, and entries tied at the tenth-row cutoff may be omitted. The first listed entry is not necessarily a sole record holder.

Highlights and milestone watch

This Week uses seven days ending on the latest available match date, which may differ from the current week. For each discipline it selects up to four leading performances and up to two additional performances by players aged 23 or under at the match, from the leading forty candidates. Batting sorts by runs; bowling sorts by wickets then runs conceded.

Milestones use separate career totals for each format and level. Players must have a recorded appearance within the latest 90 days of available data. Run landmarks occur every 1,000 runs with a 150-run watch window; wicket landmarks occur every 100 wickets with a ten-wicket watch window.

Player rankings

Player profiles show stored batting and bowling ranking positions for the latest available rating year, separated by competition, format and level, with the calculation date where available. These are Redball ratings, not an official governing-body ranking. A missing current ranking does not imply that no historical rating exists.

Observed match coverage

Earliest and latest recorded match dates in the match catalogue by format and level. Individual batting and bowling records may cover a smaller set of matches. These spans do not establish completeness.

Sources, dates and corrections

Statistical pages draw on Redball’s recorded match and career-summary data. External sources are credited on individual articles where provided; an external source listed for one article should not be taken as the provider of the entire database.

Match coverage describes match dates. Source update dates describe updates to the displayed source rows, where recorded. Retrieval time describes when Redball assembled the response and does not mean that a match or source changed then. Future-dated matches are excluded from these public record tables. This is not a live score service.

Coverage gaps, historical scorecard omissions and separately updated aggregates can affect comparisons. Report a correction with the page URL, affected player or match, and a supporting source.
